A Christmas Cruise or A Christmas Prince?

Two things before we begin…

One, here’s hoping I get my shit together in 2018 because my Christmas post is arriving the day after ChristmasSheesh! I blame it on the fact that the holidays are crazy, plus both my husband and I have divorced parents, leading us to Reese Witherspoon & Vince Vaughn it up …

But, better a Christmas post late, than never!

Second, My Hollywood Hangover made it to fifty posts! Can you believe it?! Number fifty will be last post of the year, but we’ll be back in 2018 with more juicy gossip, thoughts, and feelings about all things pop culture! I want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all my family, friends (old & new), and followers of my blog. Watching television and movies has been much more enjoyable knowing I could share my thoughts with strangers! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and has a beautiful new year!

Now let’s get to it!

Is there a Christmas romance you find believable and warms you to the core? When I say “warms you to the core” I’m talking Titanic “I’ll never let go Jack” or The Notebook “if you’re a bird then I’m a bird” type love story. I figured with Hallmark, ION, and Lifetime having an unlimited amount of Christmas romances, I’d try a few out!

christmas-tree-couple.jpg

I really had no idea what to choose to watch so I decided on A Christmas Cruise because Nick who is so VILE was making his acting debut, and then A Christmas Prince because of all the hype it was getting on social media.

A Christmas Cruise

Premise: Vivica A. Fox is a writer with a young editor for a boss. He wants her to write a sexy and unique story, and if she does, she gets to be a senior editor or some shit like that. Because she’s single, her friend signs her up for … wait for it … a cruise to CHRISTMAS ISLAND! Yes, that’s the name of the island, plus the whole ship and experience is Christmas themed.

Anyway, Vivica thinks she can get her story on the trip so she goes. And meets/falls in love with the cruise director (see below). What is really annoying about this cruise director was how many times he reminds Vivica that he can’t fraternize with the guests, yet the last third of the movie he spends fraternizing with her and her friend (who also meets a love on the cruse). Oh, AND cruise director asks V to quit her job and write novels on the ship while he works (uhh how long have you known each other?)!

AChristmasCruise-4.jpg

Second annoying aspect of the film … NICK VIALL IS ONLY IN IT TWICE! He is on the freaking movie poster; what an advertising scheme! He has one line where he gives the cruise director love advice (yeah because he’s a real expert there!) and you’re supposed to believe their best friends even though Viall Vile is in the movie twice with two total lines!

Image result for a christmas cruise movie

The only part that didn’t annoy me out of the whole film is when Vivica gives advice to a engaged 29 year old on the cruise. In the end, V gets her dream editing job but misses the cruise director, so he ends up leaving his job to come find her because the guy needs to chase after the girl not the other way around and is there always caroling at the end of these cheeseball Christmas movies?

On the cheese scale, A Christmas Cruise gets an A and on the believability scale, it gets a D.

Worst line of the film: “I want to be my own captain …”
“And I want to be your first mate!”

A Christmas Prince

This had to be the Christmas romance of the year and it wasn’t even Hallmark produced! The movie got so much hype (in my eyes thanks to the Harry, Meghan, and the promotion team at Netflix), that I had to watch it.

Premise: Young writer (again with the writers .. let’s find our characters a different profession … or can females only fall in love when they’re trying to write a story to further their careers … ohh but I bet they leave their careers  in the end when they do actually fall in love!) pretends to tutor a princess to gain access and find the scoop on the heir to the throne (the princess’s brother). Drama ensues, but low and behold, in the end the prince and the lowly American writer who only wears Chuck Taylors fall in love.

A few questions I have about this movie: Why does the queen never wear a crown? And how come no one ever sees Amber (our heroine writer) on her cellphone capturing pictures inside the palace? Why is the acting so bad? See more unanswered questions here!

However, I didn’t completely hate the movie. I really enjoyed the little sister princess who Amber must tutor. She’s my favorite character. I also really liked how the prince has to save Amber from wolves out in the forest JUST LIKE THE BEAST SAVES BELLE FROM WOLVES! There are also more twists than I expected in the movie, but alas Amber’s identity is revealed by two sinister characters out to steal the throne, but as you guessed it, all works out in the end.

(You can find many more witty tweets about this movie; seriously just hashtag it!)

On the cheese scale, A Christmas Prince gets an C and on the believability scale, it gets a F, however the movie does get an A+ on the ability to be swept into it more so than a cruise to somewhere called Christmas Island.

Worst line of the film: “Where there’s a tiara, there’s dirt. Trust me.”

Did you watch either film this Holiday season?

Did He or Didn’t He? Season 6 Vanderpump Rules Premier

@HeatherMcDonald: “How pissed would you be if you hired Faith to be your 95 yr old grandma’s caregiver? #VanderpumpRules @kristendoute @scheana #WWHL”

@pdubsuw: “My birthday is coming up. I may tweet at Scheana and ask her not to come #PumpRules”

@LoveAndyC: “You invest 10% and think you can design this place? #PumpRules”

@MusicKillsKatie: “Now that’s what we call a season opener! #pumprules”

You said it Katie.

JAX CHEATED ON BRITTANY WITH ANOTHER SERVER NAMED FAITH WHILE AN OLD LADY SLEPT NEARBY?! I mean, can this show get any crazier? Now Faith may be pregnant. If she is pregnant with Jax’s baby this is the biggest thing ever! Bigger than when it was revealed that Kristen and Jax did in fact sleep together … or the slap heard ’round the world.

Image result for stassi slap gif

Faith’s story is suuuuper sketch though. Apparently Jax just “stopped following her on Twitter” but then called her and said he’s always wanted to hook up with her and can he come over to do so while she was babysitting this elderly person? I mean, I could see Jax cheating on Brittany, but I don’t really buy this story.

Guess we’ll find out next week.

vanderpump-rules.w710.h473

While the Jax/Faith/Brittany love triangle certainly was the main storyline from the premier episode, it wasn’t the whole episode. We learned that the lines have been redrawn between some of the girls. It’s back to Ariana and Scheana on one side, and Katie and Stassi on the other.

I guess Kristen and Tom Schwartz are stuck in the middle between the two groups because both still got invited to Scheana’s birthday party. I was actually really shocked Tom was invited because to me a husband and wife are a packaged deal on an invitation.  I guess Tom didn’t get that memo either because he went to the party anyway without Katie.

He was totes missing her though because when all the cheating rumors and drama was flying around at the party, Schwartz ran to Lisa to discuss. As far as the rest of the episode, I was a little bored:

  • Lisa is wanting Tom and Tom to each invest $100,000 in this new restaurant and Sandoval is trying to ramrod the whole thing.
  • James has a new male friend (& looks like possible love interest later in the show) and his girlfriend returned for the summer.
  • Ariana got a haircut and Sandoval loves it.
  • Ummm …  Stassi crashed Tom & Katie’s honeymoon?

See, told you. Boring.

I’m still on the Brittany and Jax ordeal. I can NOT see this being true so early on in the season and us not hearing about it during filming. Although many of us did hear they had broken up a while back. I guess we’ll just have it wait and watch. But, I’m SO here for this season!

…Ready For It? Reputation Review

Taylor Swift’s sixth studio album has been out almost a month and just became available to stream.

While I hadn’t planned on reviewing it on the blog, the more I listen to it, the more I can’t stop talking or thinking about it. So, “baby let the games begin…”

  • …Ready For It?

Perfect song to open the album. Perfect song to dance to while getting ready for a night out. This song just screams “Chapter 1” of something bigger to come (whether that’s the rest of these songs or a fun night out you’ll talk about for years), “…Ready For It?” just starts it (whatever it is) off right!

  • End Game

This. Is. My. Favorite. Song. On. The. Entire. Album! for so many reasons. I love that Future & Ed are on it; they have such an opposite sound which brings for two interesting voices into one song. Not only that but the song just makes. me. dance! It hits you like BANG!

  • I Did Something Bad

I want to see Tay Tay perform this song with a marching band playing in the background; can’t you see it during the chorus? This is a song I classify as a “banger” and keeps the momentum going after “End Game.” Brilliant lyric moment: “They’re burning all the witches even if you aren’t one/so light me up!” #byehaters

  • Don’t Blame Me

This is probably my second favorite song on the album. Lyrically, I love it, especially the chorus because it’s exactly how I feel about my husband. It also makes you want to just body roll, body roll, body roll all down the hall. Cut to about 3:05 into the song: TAYLOR’S VOICE IS COMPLETE FIRE!

  • Delicate

One of my favorite lines from the whole album: “We can’t make any promises now can we babe, but you can make me a drink.”

  • Look What You Made Me Do

While I am IN LOVE with this music video, “Look What You Made Me Do” is getting to feel like “Shake It Off.” I’ll listen to it if it’s on, I’ll sing to it, and it can get me to dance; however, it’s been overplayed to the point that I’d rather listen to something else on the album first.

  • So It Goes…

Honestly haven’t listened to this song more than once due to the fact that I have so many other favorites … what are YOUR thoughts here?

  • Gorgeous

First, royalty is on this track in the form of Blake Lively & Ryan Reynold’s daughter at the beginning. I love Taylor’s voice on this song; it’s super fun to sing to.

  • Getaway Car

I know this song is A LOT of people’s favorite, however, not a favorite for me. I definitely don’t hate it; it’s just not one of my favorites.

  • King of My Heart

I lump this song in with “So It Goes…” and “Getaway Car.” I don’t listen to it much because I love the others more; though I don’t particularly hate it or love it. It will probably be one of those songs I’ll discover months later and wonder why I didn’t love it from the beginning. The beat is unique though and I really like where the song goes around 2:34.

  • Dancing With Our Hands Tied

Third favorite song to dance to after “End Game” and “I Did Something Bad.” It proves that the album isn’t even close to being over yet.

  • Dress

What does your mother say about these lyrics Taylor?

  • This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

There is SO much I love about this song: analyzing who it’s about, the champagne and Gatsby references, the distinctive beat, the chanty chorus, her toast to her ‘real’ friends/her baby/her mama, and lastly, her scary cackle when discussing forgiveness.

  • Call It What You Want

Of all the early releases, this was my favorite. The “my baby’s fit like a daydream/walking with his head down/I’m the one he’s walking to” line is so catchy. Plus I appreciate her honesty regarding hiding away and the intensity of her relationship … call all of that what you want haters; the new Taylor tells us she could care less.

  • New Year’s Day

Anyone catch Swifty play this song acoustically during a Scandal episode? That is where I first fell in love with it. I am SO curious to know who this song is about; I’m sure there is some article somewhere with hard evidence of who it is (someone find that for me please). It’s a perfect ending to the album; soft, light, feathery.

The MHH reviews are in! This is my favorite Taylor album of them all!

Each song is better than the previous. Each song is different, a jam, and fun to not only dance to but analyze. If I had to criticize something, it’s the fact that I don’t hear much of a “girl power” message. I hear a lot of how she’s obsessed with her relationship, and was completely burned by people. Where is the message to tell all your fans who adore you to be strong, forget what others say about you, and stand on your own two feet without a man? She’s a bit, “I got a boy, I got a boy, look at how great my boy is, oh, and people were mean to me.”

Before I start getting all the TS hate mail, I’ll be the first to admit that I 100% relate to the fact that I would put out the exact same message Taylor did with this album; I would write about nothing but how great the person I’m with is, and how horrible everyone else treated me. So as the song goes, I don’t blame her.

I can’t write an honest review without playing devil’s advocate a bit, but real talk I FREAKING LOVE THIS ALBUM …maybe even more than Spencer Pratt …

And if not, I’m at least a close second.
